To understand what engaging plus size fashion blogging means to the curvy girl community, you have to understand what it hasn’t been before recently: fashionable. Only recently has plus size fashion, modeling, and blogging became the ‘it girl’ of the fashion world. Yet, we all know it’s no trend – it’s here to stay. Some, if not all, of that success can be attributed to a few well-known plus size fashion bloggers. Let’s take a look at a few of the top bloggers of 2014!
Nicolette Mason – Diversity and Body Positivity Advocate
Nicolette Mason is a twenty-something originally hailing from Los Angeles, CA but now living and working in the fashion-capital of the world, New York City. She launched her blog (nicolettemason.com) in 2009 and also works as a fashion editor and contributor for Marie Claire Magazine. Mason describes herself as “a big advocate of diversity and body positivity.”
Nicolette maintains that while the blogging community is changing and becoming friendlier toward plus-sized women, it’s really the fashion industry that’s transforming in a dramatic way. “The number of brands that existed four years ago versus now – it’s just astounding how many more are truly fashionable and have very inventive style,” she quoted, in a recent interview with whowhatwear.com. Mason’s favorite plus-sized brands include ASOS, Eloquil, and ModCloth.
Tanesha – The Girl with Curves
Tanesha Awasthi, better known as the voice and creator of girlwithcurves.com, is using her fashion advice as a way to reach out to others and impact lives. Focusing on promoting positive body image, her blog often features elegant and classic pieces that are anything but boring. Girl With Curves has been featured in high-profile fashion magazines like Redbook, Glamour, and InStyle.
Tanesha maintains that the appeal of her blog may stem from the fact that while she identifies with the shape of curvy and not the size, she wears clothing from straight and plus-sized brands. Awasthi’s favorite curvy-girl brands include Mynt 1792, Marina Rinaldi, and clothing provider service Gwynnie Bee.
Gabi Fresh – Fashion, Health and Beauty
Gabi Gregg is better known as the creator of plus-size fashion and lifestyle blog, gabifresh.com, which she launched in 2008. Gabi is a frequent fashion contributor to Glamour, Teen Vogue, and InStyle and also works as a freelance writer and stylist. Gregg describes herself as a girl who loves “fashion, health, and beauty.”
In 2013, Gregg made headlines when she featured photos of plus-sized fans in swimwear on gabifresh.com, within a photo album entitled she named, ‘Fatkini.’ Shortly thereafter, Gregg launched a plus-sized swimwear collection with online retailer, Swimsuits for All (swimsuitsforall.com). Gabi credits the Internet for giving plus-sized women, “that voice and the opportunity to show plus-size women are interested in fashion.” Gregg’s favorite plus-sized brands include Mango and Simply Be.
These three bloggers are fashionistas that you know. Next week, we’ll feature plus-sized bloggers that aren’t yet a household name but who are just around the corner from blowing up the fashion world!
