In case you haven’t heard, the winner of Project Runway Season 14 was none other than plus-size designer Ashley Nell Tipton (we, of course, knew she was a winner when she was first getting started this season)! Her runway collection had a “Mexico 1950’s” vibe and showed during NYFW anonymously featuring vibrant flower crowns, delicate fabrics, pastels, and of course plus-size models. Tipton faced quite a bit of criticism during season 14, even from plus-size supporter Tim Gunn, but managed to pull through in the end. “I was over-the-moon,” Tipton told People Magazine of her win. “Everything that I’ve gone through has gotten me here, and all my hard work has paid off.”
Tipton wasn’t able to share the win until the episode aired about a month after and so she used the time to revamp her brand, website, and logo. Tipton’s ulitmate goal is to create a global, ready-to-wear brand for women of all sizes. While she still continues to create custom pieces, it’s not her major focus at the moment. She is in the process of negotiating with major fashion labels and retailers to expand her line. Tipton also hopes to continue the innovation she has already created in the lacking plus size size fashion space. A fashionable bridal line is also said to be in the works. Until then, we are waiting with anticipation for her online store opening.
