Ever since Spanx hit the market it’s been a hit among celebrities and fashionistas.  After all, who doesn’t want a little help smoothing out those areas we aren’t 100% comfortable with.  We here at Plvsh feel that shape wear is an integral part of of building a solid plus size foundation.  The key is to choose the right size and shape for you for a comfortable and flattering fit.

Finding the Right Fit

While it may seem like a great idea, don’t try and size down for extra firmness!  In the end, this will cause bulging and potentially hours hours of uncomfortableness. If a shapewear piece is too tight or uncomfortable, then it’s NOT the right size or piece of shapewear for you.  To smooth out the lines and bulges, go for a medium firmness.  If you go for a more intense undergarment expect a little more constriction but a more dramatic shape change. For bottoms, look for pieces, which extend all the way up your torso for a more overall smooth affect. Alternatively, a simple tank is sometimes the best option.  As with any clothing, try the piece to see how it fits under your favorite garments; only then will you be able to see if it fits right and does its intended job.

While there are so many great options these days, that you have your pick–slimming tights, to leggings to undies that have a built in booty!–todays brands also often come in breathable fabrics like cotton, which wick moisture away in warmer temperatures while keeping you warm in the cooler months.  Many of us here at Plvsh swear by our favorite cotton tanks featured by Yummie Tummy on a daily basis.  We then save the “harder working” shapewear options special occasions.  The key is that while it may be worth it to you to give up some comfort for a special evening, on a day to day basis, you want to be comfortable.  After all, when you are comfortable you feel good, and when you feel good, you look good.
