Naomi Shimada does a little bit of everything and she is a busy woman. From her plus-size modeling career, to being an activist, spokesperson, filmmaker, and host. Shimada is also an advocate and voice of the body positive movement. As a self-confessed “professional loudmouth”, she is one to make her voice known. This girl is changing the way fashion looks for 2017 and beyond.
Naomi Shimada is truly a citizen of the world. She also is bilingual, half-Japanese and born in Tokyo Japan on July 13, 1987. The majority of her childhood was spent in Spain, and she has also lived for long periods in New York and London. Her experience of a variety of cultures gives her a unique outlook on global affairs.
“There’s definitely a problem with the whole gray area of sizing. Basically, we’re talking about anything—as humans I don’t know what’s the actual range of sizes that we are, but basically anything above a size 6, in industry terms. We’re talking about industry terms. That is the smallest bracket of humans that are that small! This big picture orientated lady is currently very involved in community improvement efforts and social causes to better the world. She supports several charities and makes sure to feature her advocacy efforts in her work. She is in the production of a documentary series that addresses women’s issues around the world including motherhood, sexuality, and access to healthcare.
