You’ve worn that plus size closet staple time and time again–under a blazer, tucked into shorts and even paired with something unexpected like a maxi dress–but now it’s time to pull out tried and true oxford and have a little fun. Push your fashion boundaries with fit, color, or accessories! The oxford has been re-imagined (and re-imagined and re-imagined) in chic and versatile ways. Our favorite ways to wear it? Tucked in to something a little surprising like a skirt (think florals and jewel-tones) or a with a flowy maxi and statement necklace. We’re also loving wearing our oxfords as outerwear pieces paired with a chiffon or silk tank and “evening” shorts. Nothing in white? Any shade of blue, a pretty pastel or other neutral tone will do the trick. Try one of these bright numbers from Land’s End.
1. Sunday Brunch: The classic button-down has been done the same way over and over and over, and a day out with the girlfriends is the perfect time to experiment with some styles you might never dared try. While the bolo tie in this example might be a bit over-the-top for your tastes, you can certainly button your top right up to the collar and pair with your favorite necklace or brooch. A pencil skirt and vest add figure definition and get rid of any hint of the boring in this work staple.
2. Dinner & Drinks: Add some razzle dazzle to a Friday night and keep on the shirt you wore to work and trade in those slacks for a sequined skirt. If you want to take it to the next level add a tuxedo jacket and a wild metallic necklace.
3. Running Errands: If you’re the kind of person who would don a button-up to run errands, you’ll be looking to keep it slick if comfy and simple. Try pairing with a long cardigan and black jersey bottoms to maintain simple, clean lines. Break up the monotone with a piece of statement jewelry or a couple of bangles worn over the sleeve.
4. Business Casual: The Oxford IS the business casual/business formal staple, so if you’re able to have a bit of fun try pairing with a men’s blazer and tie. Keep it feminine with a skirt and you’ll pull off the menswear look for casual Friday.
