Kelly Osbourne’s tagline for her (plus size) Stories…by Kelly Osbourne collection with HSN is ‘Fashion Should be Fair’. After working as the plus size model for her promotional video, I absolutely believe she truly means it. This is a celebrity who not only helped me into my spanx during fittings, but also asked my opinion on what I was wearing. We chatted about and an experience from her her past when she was made to feel excluded from the standard size fashion in a department store and she teared up. This woman gets it.
On a typical fashion shoot, the opinions of the model, particularly a plus size woman’s opinions, are rarely taken into consideration. And yes, while plus size models are often smaller than their target audience at a size 12/14, I am a 14/16. Kelly had the clothes sewn to fit ME for the shoot. I think this shows not only a compassion for her HSN audience and customers, but also demonstrates her understanding of a woman’s desire to feel great in what they’re wearing, no matter their size.
Here’s hoping that more retailers begin to think about and appreciate women like the lovely little spitfire of a creature that is miss Kelly Osbourne.
