Australian actress Rebel Wilson, best known for her supporting roles in comedies Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, has a new title to add to her resume: fashion designer! Wilson will be teaming up with plus-sized brand, Torrid, to launch a special edition plus-size fashion line that will be released later this year.
The capsule collection, which insiders say will be released just in time for the holidays in November, will feature designs of varying price from $28.50 to $125.00. The collection will host 25 pieces including tops, bottoms, jackets, dresses, and accessories. Wilson is heavily involved in the design of each piece and they all feature her personal touches including a shirt featuring a koala bear print, homage to her Australian nationality and a top featuring a microphone, testament to Wilson’s love of performing.
Before the partnership, Wilson expressed her admiration for the Torrid brand, saying that she had a love affair with purchasing their clothes. So it makes perfect sense that the actress would choose to affiliate her new brand with the plus-sized clothing store. Torrid is an American owned chain that offers sizes 12 – 26 in 170 stores nationwide. In addition to a wide selection of plus-sized clothing, Torrid also offers accessories, shoes, gifts, and beauty products.
Wilson has said in the past that she has found that there was a lack of “good quality and affordable” plus-sized clothing. Her choice to team with Torrid instead of other plus-sized brands comes from the fact that she believes Torrid is “doing such a great job in making plus-size fashion relevant and dope.”
While this is Wilson’s first collaboration with Torrid, it was announced recently that after this collection premieres, they would collaborate again in Spring 2016 – a clear indication that both brand and designer believe the first collection will be very successful.
