The yearly TIME 100 list consists of the 100 most influential pioneers, leaders, titans, artists, and icons of 2018. As determined by the magazine’s editors. To celebrate, the annual gala is held in their honor in NYC at the Frederick P. Rose Hall featuring a stunning red carpet of the honorees. The entrants and winners are chosen for changing the world, regardless of the consequences of their actions. But we are pretty excited about their latest inductee, designer and longtime plus size supporter Christian Siriano!
Siriano is a welcome follow-up to last year’s honoree Melissa Mccarty, who spoke at the gala in 2017. During her fun and inspiring speech, the actress recognized the challenges the honorees likely faced on their road to greatness, mentioning many were told, “you can’t do that” or “that’s not how you should think.” “Everyone in this room simply forged ahead,”. That’s our kind of go-to attitude that the entertainment and fashion industry needs for change.
Siriano appeared on the red carpet with a favorite client, actress Leslie Jones. The star channeled model Grace Jones in a white blazer/dress, dark sunglasses, and black lipliner for the evening. Best known for her role in GhostBusters and Saturday Night Live. When the actress was having trouble finding a dress for the big day she tweeted
“It’s so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for a movie. Hmmm, that will change and I remember everything”.
Siriano answered the call and created a gorgeous showstopping floor-length red gown for the big premiere.
Christian Siriano and Leslie Jones
When I couldn’t get a dress for the Ghostbusters premiere, Christian Siriano graciously stepped up and made me a dress like I’d known him for 10 years. He made me feel beautiful. I couldn’t believe no designers were reaching out to me to make a dress for one of the biggest premieres. He kept saying, “You have such a beautiful figure.”.
That’s the specialness of Christian Siriano. He has his talents and then incorporates them into what you want. Which in the end is something that both of us want, making him a one-of-a-kind designer. It was a Pretty Woman moment because when I was on the red carpet, all I kept saying to the designers was, “You made a huge mistake … HUGE.”
Oh, and he invited me to my first fashion show, where I got to yell like I was at a Yankees game—thanks, Christian!

Siriano and Plus Size
Siriano is no stranger to dressing plus size women. He also recently created a very printed and colorful collection for Lane Bryant featuring actress Danielle Brooks. “Christian Siriano is a real star; from his highly publicized debut on television, his millions of social followers and through the years as he has successfully designed and shown his own beautiful ready-to-wear clothes worn by some of the best-known celebrities, he has proved his talent on the world fashion stage,” said Linda Heasley, CEO of Lane Bryant.
After winning the tv competition Project Runway his first collection debuted at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue in 2008. Soon after his flagship store opened a few years later on New York’s up and coming Elizabeth street in Manhattan. Now he is known to dress celebrities including Heidi Klum, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Christina Hendricks, and most notably the former first lady for the Democratic National Convention.
Congrats Siriano on your recent accomplishment we can not wait to see what you have in store in the future! It seems like he is definitely a fashion influencer to watch.
